The Temazcal or Zumpul-Che consists of a steam bath that is part of a pre-Hispanic Mayan ritual. It covers two fundamental aspects of it: the spiritual, by representing the return to our mother earth and to purify and harmonize the mind, body and spirit; and the therapeutic, through sweating toxins which are eliminated, glandular system stimulation and cell regeneration.
The ancient Mayans entered the Zumpul-Che to cleanse their body and spirit, seeking to please the gods before a ceremony.
Traces of these Mayan baths have been found in Palenque, Chichen Itza, Tikal, Tulum, Dzibilchaltún, Tonina, Piedras Negras, Xcambo and Joya de Ceren, among others.
