We have everything you need to know about the best time to visit Chichén Itzá.
The Best Time to Visit Chichén Itzá
When is the best time to visit Chichén Itzá, you ask? You’re in luck—it’s always a good time to visit the Seventh Wonder of the World! Here are a few times to consider when planning your trip to the stunning Mayan creation.
- Experience Spring Equinox
Spring Equinox at Chichén Itzá is one of the most unique and exciting times at the pyramid. Join in the festivities as crowds assemble to watch the snake align down the side of the stone steps. This phenomenon only happens when the Earth and the sun are positioned just right. The Mayans created this shadow formation to signify the beginning and end of the harvest season.
Artists such as Elton John and Pavarotti have performed under the natural stage of Chichén Itzá. You’ll want to plan your trip far in advance if you plan to visit during an equinox.
- Visit During Fall Equinox
Much like spring equinox, fall equinox drives masses to the pyramids to witness the miraculous shadow creations that the Mayans left behind. Once again, Kukulcán (the feathered serpent) forms down the side of the pyramid marking the end of the harvest season.
Fall Equinox is another time that will require advanced planning. Book your stay in the footsteps of Chichén Itzá and see it all from Mayaland’s private entrance.
- Visiting in Fall and Winter
While anytime is a good time to visit the pyramid, one of our favorite times is November through March. Temperatures are relatively mild (in comparison to summer months), and crowds are not quite as large.
Want to skip the crowds all together? Stay at Mayaland Hotel and Bungalows or The Lodge at Chichén Itzá and enjoy access to the pyramids through our private entrance. Trust us—you don’t want to pass this up.
